Longweekend Yulara!

Hallootjes allerliefste fans,

Wauw, wauw en nog eens wauw. Wat heb ik een geweldige 4 dagen achter de rug, deze glimlach is niet meer van mijn gezicht te krijgen. Zoals jullie weten had ik een lang weekend outback op de planning staan en wat was dit geweldig want hier heb ik een van de Australia- hoogtepunten bezocht Uluru. Omdat dit zo overweldigend was en ik er heel veel over kan vertellen hak ik het hele verhaal in 2 stukken. Deze blog gaat over mijn mini vakantie in Yulara met alle dingen die ik daarover te vertellen heb en dan zullen jullie ergens deze week nog een blog krijgen over the outback tour die ik heb gedaan.

Maar eerste even beginnen bij het begin, omdat ik na mijn verblijf bij Simpkinsons niet verder ga reizen boden ze mij aan om een paar lange weekenden te gaan ontdekken en vandaar dat ik in November ergens al deze trip had geboekt. Dus daar ging ik dan 13 februari met Jetstar naar Uluru, Britse naam Ayers rock. Vanaf het moment dat ik uitstapte was het 46 graden en moest je opletten dat je niet per ongeluk een vlieg naar binnen slikte, want het stikt daar van de vliegen die op de vocht van je huid afkomen. Dus bij aankomst direct een vliegnetje voor over mijn gezicht heen gekocht, niet heel charmant maar wel 100x zo chill. 

Er was hier een tijdsverschil van min anderhalf uur met Sydney dus super verwarrend, ik verbleef in het enige plaatsje in een straal van 500 kilometer genaamd Yulara. Dit dorpje heeft ongeveer 1000 duizend inwoners en hiermee is het de 5 na grootste plek in the North territory, wat lastig is te bevatten want het is echt heel klein. Het dorpje is eigenlijk van een bedrijf dat het Ayers rock resort hier heeft opgezet, dus het hele dorp bestaat uit verschillende resort complexen en huizen/appartementen van de mensen die hier werken. Voordeel is hier van dat alles tot in de puntjes is geregeld van gratis shuttle bussen tot het informatie centrum en het kleine dorpsplein met een supermarktje plus cafeetje. Ik zelf verbleef in the outback pioneer lodge dat in feite gewoon allemaal los staande huisjes waren met daarin hotel kamers of slaapzalen, ik sliep op een slaapzaal en dat was prima te doen. Verder had the lodge echt alles zoals een zwembad, keuken, gezamelijke ruimte, bar, live muziek, snackbar en lopend buffet restaurant.  Vanaf de lodge was het ongeveer 10 minuutjes lopen naar town square en je loopt dan als het ware over een heuvel heen waar je heel mooi Uluru kan zien.

Mijn eerste dag heb ik dus wat rond gekeken in het dorpje en een hike gemaakt. Eenmaal in het dorpje werd mijn aandacht getrokken door het informatie/ toeristen centrum waar alle reisorganisaties hun kraampje hadden en heb ik besloten om super spontaan een vliegtocht om Uluru en kata Tjuta heen te boeken. Want zoals de meeste wel weten houd ik wel van wat avontuur en al helemaal in de lucht of het water. Dus daar stond ik dan 2 uur later op het vliegveldje van Yulara met 3 andere en een piloot, in de verte zagen we een storm aankomen wat mij wel een beetje angstig maakte maar achteraf juist een prachtig effect gaf. Want eenmaal in de lucht zagen die donkere wolken er heel anders uit met de zon die er tussen door brak en een prachtig kleurenpallet gaf. Onder de indruk van de kleuren, de bliksemflitsen die in verte steeds dichterbij kwamen en de rode grond vlogen we over het nationale park heen waar we eerst om Kata Tjuta heen vlogen, dit was echt ongelofelijk mooi. Vooral omdat de zon er mooie rode kleuren aangaf en omdat je alle 36 verschillende stenen apart van elkaar kon zien, daarna vlogen we naar Uluru. Persoonlijk vond ik het wel mooi om te zien natuurlijk maar vanwege de zon die achter de wolken was verdwenen was de kleur niet zo helder als kata Tjuta . Al met al was het gewoon geweldig om dit te ervaren en vanaf de bovenkant te zien en mee te maken.

Dus daar zit ik dan met me blije kop omdat ik zo een leuk koptelefoontje op mocht.

Uluru, zoals je dus ziet is de zon helemaal weg achter de wolken en gaf het niet de kleur heel duidelijk. Maar het zorgde wel voor een mooie lucht!

En je begrijpt dus nu ook wel waarom ze het 'the red center' noemen.

Helemaal in de wolken van deze super gave activiteit keerde ik terug naar het hostel waar op dat moment wat live muziek afspeelde en ik dus lekker de gelegenheid kreeg een beetje vriendjes en vriendinnetjes te maken:). De volgende ochtend werd ik om 12 uur opgehaald voor mijn outback tour alleen hier ga ik een aparte blog over schrijven omdat dit ten eerste een hele andere ervaring was, er teveel over te vertellen is en ik jullie niet 1 blog wil geven waar je een uur leesvoer aan heb... Dus 14 februari werd ik opgehaald en 15 februari was ik weer in het resort rond 1pm, en die hele dag heb ik niks gedaan. Alleen maar in de zon gelegen en lekker een boek gelezen want geloof me in 46 graden wil en kan je ook niet echt heel veel meer. Die avond was er weer live muziek maar waren de meeste backpackers die ik had leren kennen ingeruild voor een groepje hele aanwezige Amerikanen, dus voelde ik me niet zo geroepen om me daarbij aan te sluiten. Aangezien ik toch onwijs moe was heb ik heerlijk in me eentje op een afgelegen plekje met prachtig uitzicht op de woestijn een kangaroo wrap gegeten, geniet momentje. Lekker vroeg te bed gegaan en daardoor was ik de volgende ochtend weer fit en energie rijk genoeg om een hike te maken, te zwemmen, lekker te bellen met een goede vriend en souvenirtjes te halen. Rond 11.30 am vertrok mijn bus naar airport waar mijn vlucht om 1pm vertrok waardoor ik om 6pm weer lekker in de drukke chaotische stad aankwam. Vanaf daar nog anderhalf uur reizen naar huis en daar werd ik natuurlijk weer met open armen ontvangen bij de Simpkinsons. Inmiddels ben ik ook alweer aan het werk en kijk ik ook alweer uit naar mijn volgende tripje :)

Hey my dear fiends,

Wow, wow and again wow. What an amazing 4 days I have had, I still have the biggest smile ever. As you know, I had a long weekend outback planned and it was great because I visited one of the Australia-highlights: Uluru. Because this was so overwhelming and I can tell a lot about it, I chopped the whole story in 2 pieces. This blog is about my mini vacation in Yulara with all the things I have to say about it and then in a blog later this week I will tell you al about the outback trip with a tour operator.

But first I start at the beginning, because after my stay at the Simpkinsons I am not going to travel any further, so they recommended to go and discover a few long weekends and that is why I already booked this trip somewhere in November. So on 13 February I flew with Jetstar to Uluru, British name Ayers rock. From the moment I got out it was 46 degrees and you had to be careful not to accidentally swallow a fly in, because there are a billion flies who likes the moisture of your skin. So on arrival I immediately bought a fly net for over my face, not very charming but so worth it.

There was a time difference of at least an hour and a half here with Sydney so super confusing, I stayed in the only place in 500 kilometer radius called Yulara. This village has about  a thousand inhabitants and with this it is the 5th largest place in the North territory, which is difficult to comprehend because it is really very small. The village is actually from a company that set up the Ayers rock resort here, so the entire village consists of resort complexes and houses / apartments of the people who work here. The advantage here is that everything has been arranged down to the smallest detail from free shuttle buses and the small village square with a supermarket and café. I myself stayed in the outback pioneer lodge that in fact were just all detached houses containing hotel rooms or dorms, I slept in a dorm and that was fine to do. The lodge had everything like a swimming pool, kitchen, common room, bar, live music, snack bar and running buffet restaurant. From the lodge it was about a 10 minute walk over a hill where you can see beautiful Uluru, and which lead you to the town square.

My first day I looked around the village and made a hike. Once in the village my attention was drawn to the information / tourist center where all the tour companies had their booth and I decided to book a flight around Uluru and kata Tjuta. Because as most people know, I do like some adventure and especially in the air or water. So there I was 2 hours later at the airport of Yulara with 3 others and a pilot, in the distance we saw a storm coming which made me a little scared but afterwards gave us a beautiful effect. Because once in the sky, those dark clouds looked very different with the sun breaking through and giving a beautiful color palette. Impressed by the colors, the flashes of lightning in the distance and the red ground we flew over the national park where we first flew around Kata Tjuta, this was really incredibly beautiful. Especially because the sun indicated beautiful red colors and because you could see all 36 different stones separately, we then flew to Uluru. Personally I thought it was nice to see of course but because of the sun that had disappeared behind the clouds, the color was not as bright as kata Tjuta. But at the end it was just wonderful to do this and to see it from the top.

Completely over the moon of this super cool activity I returned to the hostel where some live music was playing at that time and so I had the opportunity to make some friends :). The next morning I was picked up at 12 o'clock for my outback tour only I am going to write a separate blog about this because this was a completely different experience, there is too much to tell about it and I don't want to give you an hour of reading material ... So February 14th I was picked up and February 15th I was back at the resort around 1pm, and this day I didn't do anything at all. Just sun baking and reading a good book because believe me in 46 degrees you can't and don't want to do much more. That evening there was live music again, but most of the backpackers I had left and in their place was a group of very loud Americans, so I didn't want to join that party. As I was really tired, I ate a delicious kangaroo wrap on my own in a quiet place with a beautiful view of the desert. I went to bed early and because of that I was fit and energetic again the next morning to take a hike, swim, make a nice call with a good friend and get souvenirs. Around 11.30 am my bus left for the airport where my flight departed at 1pm so I arrived back in the busy chaotic city at 6pm. From there another hour and a half of traveling home and of course I was welcomed with open arms by the Simpkinsons. Meanwhile I am already working again and looking forward to my next trip :)
